Things You Should Know About Fire & Safety
Five minutes. That’s how long they say it takes for a house to be engulfed in flames. Most people think this is plenty of time to escape a fire, and I would agree—if you're aware of the fire in time. For us, we likely had less than five minutes because our smoke detectors didn’t go off.
Instead, it was our pets who alerted us. On July 20, 2020,
we experienced a house fire that started in our garage. Based on the intensity
of the flames, we believe it had already been burning for a few minutes. While
five minutes may seem like enough time to escape, in reality we had only
moments to react.
What we learned that night was surprising: even in a brand-new home, smoke detectors are not typically installed in garages. This had never crossed our minds before; we just assumed the detectors inside the house were sufficient. Unfortunately, they weren’t. Thankfully, we escaped that night in July 2020, but things could have turned out very differently if we hadn’t been alerted when we were. Since then we have added smoke detectors to our garage area.
This month, we want to share some Fire Safety tips that can help you keep your
team at work and your family at home safe. Fire is unpredictable and without
the proper alert systems and training on how to respond-- can be tragic. Enjoy
this month's newsletter and thanks for continuing to Actively C.A.R.E.
